Transit Visa

Visa applications must be made IN PERSON.

Permitted activities

Limited to sightseeing, leisure and rest. Applicants must be those travelling on to a third country from another country via Japan who wish to stay in Japan for a short period (up to 15 days).
Australians no longer need a visa to transit in Japan on their way to a third country provided the transit period is no more than 90 days. The traveller's passport must remain valid during the period of transit but there is no minimum period of validity required.
 

EQUIREMENTS

  1. 1. One completed visa application form pdf
    　　※You must answer all the questions. If there is nothing to write for a particular question, please write "None" or "N/A".

    2．One passport sized photograph (4.5cm x 3.5cm, taken within 6 months, plain white background only)

    3．A valid passport
    　　※Your passport must remain valid during the period of stay in Japan.  

    4．Your current Australian Visa
          -Visa sticker on your passport, or
          -Visa Grant Notice Letter, or
          -Visa Status Confirmation from the Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) System  

    5. A copy of E-ticket or confirmed flight details (full flight details from an accredited travel agent or airline) including the following particulars;
          -Traveler's name
          -Departure & Arrival dates and time in and out of Japan
    　　※We do not require the purchase of tickets, but we do require a confirmed reservation. We are not responsible for tickets which may be unusable due to the delay or denial of a visa.
       6．A visa for the next country you will visit after Japan.

       7．Information about your accommodation whilst in Japan.(e.g. Letter of confirmation for hotel reservation)
 

NOTES

  • A person staying in Australia with a tourist/visitor visa can apply only in her/his own country.
  • Documents must be original or certified copies. Documents will not be returned to the applicant unless those photocopies are provided together with the original at the time of application.
  • Additional documents may be required from the applicant after the visa officer has checked the application.
  • It takes approximately 5 business days to process your visa application; however, it may take longer depending on the situation.
