On November 27, a presentation ceremony was held at the Official Residence of the Consul-General for the 2025 Foreign Minister’s Commendation, awarded to the Japanese drumming group Taiko-On.
 
Consul-General Karimata presented the commendation to Simon Vanyai, representing Taiko-On, at the Foreign Minister’s presentation ceremony. The commendation was awarded in recognition of Taiko-On’s diligent efforts, creativity and devotion, spanning more than ten years, to popularizing and promoting Japanese drumming and Japanese culture in Western Australia, strengthening the friendship and cultural exchange between Japan and Australia.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the Hon Minister Reece Whitby MLA (Minister for Police; Road Safety; Tourism; Great Southern), Taiko-On members and many other supporters and friends of Taiko-On.
 
Consul-General Karimata opened the presentation ceremony with a congratulatory message to Taiko-On, praising them for their service in furthering mutual understanding and friendship between our two countries, and expressing his expectations that Taiko-On will continue to be a bridge between Australia and Japan in the future.
 
Simon Vanyai made an acceptance speech on behalf of Taiko-On, expressing his gratitude to all Taiko-On members, and their families and friends, and affirming that they aim to continue promoting Japanese drumming and the development of the WA-Japan relationship into the future.
