Presentation of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, upon Mr Sam Walsh

On 8 November 2022, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the promotion of economic relations between Japan and Australia, the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon was conferred upon Mr. Samuel Maurice Cossart Walsh AO.
A Reception to celebrate the conferment was hosted by NAITO Yasushi, Consul-General of Japan in Perth at his official residence and Consul-General NAITO presented the Order to Mr Walsh in person, on behalf of his Majesty the Emperor of Japan. The conferment was announced in November last year as part of 2021 Autumn Foreign National Decoration by the Government of Japan.
The ceremony was attended by His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson APM, the Governor of Western Australia, The Honourable Richard Court AC, Former Ambassador of Australia to Japan, Mr Simon Trott, CEO of Rio Tinto, Her Grace, the Most Reverend Kay Goldsworthy AO among others.
Consul-General Naito noted Mr Walsh’s exceptional contribution in providing Iron Ore and other precious resources to Japan over 40 years that lead to success of Japan’s economy, his leadership roles in Australia-Japan Business Cooperation Committee and enduring contribution in a number of economic platforms.
Mr Walsh acknowledged the conferment and said it was his honour to be conferred the Order from the country he loves and engaged over many years. He was exceptionally delighted to be able to be presented this Decoration with his family, close friends and business colleagues of both Australia and Japan.
