Visit to Perth by Mr. Minoru Kitano, Speaker of the Hyogo Prefectural Assembly and Mr. Yutaka Morimoto, Vice Governor of Hyogo Prefecture, (Commemorating the 45th anniversary of the sister-state relationship between Hyogo Prefecture and Western Australia)

Mr. Minoru Kitano, Speaker of the Hyogo Prefectural Assembly and Mr. Yutaka Morimoto, Vice Governor of Hyogo Prefecture, visited Perth from August 24 to 28 to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the Hyogo-Western Australia sister state relationship.
Speaker Kitano and Vice Governor Morimoto paid courtesy calls on His Excellency the Hon. Chris Dawson, Governor of Western Australia, the Hon. Roger Cook MLA, Premier of Western Australia, the Hon. Alanna Clohesy MLC, President of the Legislative Council, the Hon. Stephen Price MLA, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and Mr Atsushi Karimata , Consul-General of Japan in Perth. In each meeting, Vice Governor Morimoto expressed his desire to further promote collaboration and cooperation with Western Australia in areas of mutual interest, marking the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the sister-state relationship.
Additionally, in the presence of the legislative speakers from both jurisdictions, the Vice Governor and the Premier signed a joint statement marking the 45th anniversary of the sister state relationship, affirming their commitment to deepening cooperation in areas such as clean energy including hydrogen, carbon-neutral ports, medical care and life sciences, economics and investment, and education, culture, tourism, and sports.
2026 is a year of significant milestones, marking not only the 45th anniversary of the Hyogo-Western Australia sister state relationship, but also the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia. Seizing this opportunity, the Consulate-General of Japan in Perth is committed to supporting the further strengthening of cooperation between the two regions across a wide range of fields, including resources and energy, education and culture, and people to people exchange.
