Reception
Reception
On June 25, a reception was held at the Official Residence of the Consul-General to send off the new Perth participants who will depart in July and August to take up their posts on the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme (JET Programme).
Reception
The reception was attended by the Hon Dan Caddy MLC, Parliamentary Secretary to the Attorney General; Minister for Commerce; Tertiary and International Education; Multicultural Interests (representing the Premier of WA), the Hon Michelle Boylan MLC (Deputy Convenor, Parliamentary Friends of Japan), government officials, members of the Japanese business community, and former JET participants, who all gathered to wish the new JETs well as they prepared to depart for Japan.

In his remarks, Consul-General Karimata congratulated this year's JET Program participants from Western Australia on being selected, and expressed his expectation that each one of them would play a vital role as an ambassador for Australia, contributing to the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and Australia. Furthermore, noting that 2026 marks the milestone 50th anniversary of the signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia, the Consul-General highlighted the vital role that people-to-people exchange, such as the JET Programme play in further deepening the bonds between our two nations. He also expressed both joy and anticipation at the prospect of the participants becoming part of the history of this great friendship.
Orientation
The new participants will be placed in locations such as Tokyo, Kagoshima, and Mie prefectures, where they will engage in foreign language education and contribute to internationalization at the local level.

Prior to the reception, the new participants took part in an orientation session with Consulate staff, CLAIR Sydney staff, and JET Programme travel agent reps, which was followed by a Q&A session with members of the JET Alumni Association of WA.
We wish the new JETs every success and a great time in Japan!
