2026 Spring Conferment of Decorations (Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays, upon Ms. Ursula Pagels)

On April 29, the Government of Japan announced the conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays, upon Ms. Ursula Pagels, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to promoting Ikebana in Western Australia, and to strengthening the friendship between Japan and Australia. The Order is awarded by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.
For over 47 years, Ms. Pagels has made significant contributions to the promotion of the Sogetsu style of Ikebana in Western Australia, and to the friendship between Japan and Australia. As the Director of the Australian Sogetsu Teachers Association of Western Australia, Ms. Pagels has contributed to the promotion of Japanese culture through the popularization of Ikebana in the region and the training of Ikebana instructors.
The Consulate-General of Japan offers its congratulations and sincere appreciation to Ms. Pagels for her exceptional efforts and achievements. Her many contributions will continue to benefit the ties of both countries profoundly for many years to come.
