Prime Minister KISHIDA’s visit to Australia(Perth)
2022/10/27
I have never been so delighted and honoured as I was to be able to welcome Prime Minister KISHIDA to Perth just two weeks after taking up my position here. This was the third visit to Perth by a Japanese Prime Minister, following Prime Minister TANAKA Kakuei in 1974 and Prime Minister ABE Shinzo in 2014. This is the very first time that a Japanese Prime Minister visited Perth only, rather than visiting Perth as one stop of a visit to multiple destinations. Japan and Australia have cooperated in various fields over many years, including in mineral resources, energy and security, and I would like to take this opportunity to express my deep respect for the efforts of the business people, Japanese community and permanent residents in Western Australia, upon which the relationship of trust between our two countries has been built over the years. .
