In December last year, the Western Australian Youth Orchestra visited Japan, performing in Hyogo Prefecture and Tokyo. WAYO is a group of around 500 young people, ranging from as young as 8 years old, up to 24 years old. One of Australia’s prominent youth orchestras and based in Perth, WAYO has performed not only in Australia but also in many other countries. 68 members participated in this tour to Japan, fascinating the audiences in Japan with their polished performances. Their performance in Hyogo marked the 35th anniversary of the WA-Hyogo Sister State relationship, and was attended by Hyogo officials including the Deputy Governor of Hyogo Prefecture. The Consulate-General offered our support to this tour, including a holding a special send-off as part of the Emperor’s Birthday Reception at the Consul-General’s Residence prior to departure, where a WAYO quartet also performed the Australian and Japanese National Anthems.
