Conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays, upon Mr. Kyoshin Kayo
April 2018 Consulate-General of Japan in Perth On April 29th, 2018, the Government of Japan announced the conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays, upon Mr. Kyoshin Kayo, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to strengthening the relations of Japan and Western Australia. The Order is awarded by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. Since 1974, Mr. Kayo has made significant contributions to the teaching and instruction of karate in Western Australia. He has contributed greatly to the growth of karate in the community as a foundation for both the University of Western Australia Karate Club and a karate group he established himself. He also played a central role in the establishment of the Western Australia Karate Federation in 1979. From his interactions with his pupils to his involvement in various cultural events and karate performances across Perth, Mr. Kayo has been devoted to promoting the relationship between Japan and Australia. His contribution to the community has also extended to his commitment to cooperating with Japanese organizations to maintain Japanese cemeteries throughout Perth, and to holding the associated memorial services. The Consulate-General of Japan offers its congratulations and sincere appreciation to Mr. Kayo for his exceptional efforts and achievements. His many contributions will continue to benefit the ties of both countries profoundly for many years to come.
