Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Iwao Horii meets with the Premier of Western Australia, the Honourable Mark McGowan MLA

 

Mr. Iwao Horii, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, met with the Honourable Mark McGowan MLA, Premier of Western Australia for about 30 minutes from 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, November 16th during the Premier’s visit to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1 At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Horii expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended to him when he visited Perth in September. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Horii welcomed Premier McGowan to Japan and stated that in order to further deepen Japan-Australia relations, it is of great importance that state-level relations also strengthened and that he would like to cooperate on promoting local exchanges including sister-city and sister-state exchange programs like that between Hyogo Prefecture and Western Australia.

2 Premier McGowan stated that he was eager to promote the strengthening of the Japan-Western Australia relationship in various areas including the food industry and tourism.

3 Furthermore, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Horii and Premier McGowan exchanged their views on increasing student exchange between Japan and Western Australia and on enhancing Japanese language education in Western Australia.
