2017 Autumn Conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays on Mrs. Tsuyako Sogawa Coveney

On November 3rd, 2017, the Government of Japan announced the conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays, upon Mrs. Tsuyako Sogawa Coveney, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to strengthening the relations of Japan and Western Australia. The Order is awarded by the His Majesty Emperor of Japan.

Mrs. Coveney has made extraordinary contributions to Japanese language study in Western Australia since 1971. She played a key role in establishing the Japanese language courses and teaching of Japanese language at the University of Western Australia and Murdoch University. Mrs. Coveney also been long-dedicated to establishing close relationships between Japanese Universities and these Universities for student exchange programs. Other areas of focus for Mrs. Coveney include her efforts in promoting Japanese culture in Western Australia and strengthening people-to-people links.

The Consulate-General of Japan offers its congratulations and sincere appreciation to Mrs. Coveney for her exceptional efforts and achievements. Her many contributions will continue to benefit the ties of both countries profoundly for many years to come.
