4th Perth Japan Festival
March 2017 Consulate-General of Japan in Perth
The fourth Perth Japan Festival was held in Forrest Place in the Perth CBD on the 25th of March. This festival promoting Japanese culture was made possible by the cooperation and support of the City of Perth, the Western Australian Government, the Japanese Association of WA, and various corporate sponsors, and attracted many people from far and wide. A variety of stage performances were held to showcase Japanese culture, including Japanese drumming, marshall arts, giant sushi roll making, and cosplay shows. The crowds packed the festival square, which featured a variety of Japanese food and merchandise for sale, ikebana, bonsai, and a number of hands-on activities such as traditional Japanese games for children. The Consul-General, Mr Hirayama, and the Right Honourable, the Lord Mayor of Perth, Ms Scaffidi, greeted the crowd at the opening ceremony. The Festival was held in tandem with “PERTH SAKE WEEK”, which featured a visiting group of Sake Brewers with Hasegawa Saketen, who performed a traditional sake barrel opening known as a ‘Kagamibiraki.’ The Consulate-General of Japan’s stall featured an Origami expert, whose demonstrations and hands-on activities delighted the many visitors to the stall. |
